Welcome
to Rancho Sierra Madre
Relieve
the stress and pressure of the modern world with a journey
into the Sierra Madres. Sitting
close to the continental divide, Rancho Sierra Madre offers visitors
modern camping facilities (running water, showers, flush toilets)
with a front door view of farming and ranching life 100 years
ago. At 6,500 feet
above sea level, you leave the sweltering heat of the Casas Grandes
basin behind as you climb into oak, juniper, and pine covered mountains.
The clean mountain air and the absence of electric lights makes
for phenomenal stargazing. Bird watching and rock hounding offer
other opportunities for the nature lovers as well as hiking along
the Piedras Verdes and Garcia Rivers. Pictographs, petroglyphs,
and world renowned cave dwellings in the area offer exciting archaeological
excursions.
Rancho
Sierra is the home of the Escuela de las Artes where Juan Quezada
has chosen to present annual pottery workshops. This pastoral
setting enables class members to learn his pottery techniques
in a relaxed, stress-free atmosphere. Skilled interpreters
make a knowledge of Spanish unnecessary. Local history
is brought to life around the campfire.
Rancho
Sierra Madre is part of the Mormon colonial purchase of 1886,
and is in the fourth generation of family ownership. The ranch
and surrounding area make it easy to appreciate the colorful history
of the Mormon mountain colonies.
Rancho
Sierra Madre offers comfortable, affordable camping facilities
for those wishing to spend time in the area. Large or small
groups can be accommodated.
